The ELA Initiative Organization lent her voice to the ongoing advocacy for the recognition, increase awareness and implementation of women and children rights in the society via an outreach to the Jakande Low Cost Housing Community. On the 19th of September, 2020, Members of the Organization went out en masse to sensitize the inhabitants of the Community. Our objective was simple, which was enlightening the residents on various ways these rights are abused and infringed upon, the dangers consequential and the need to ensure these rights are protected in the society.
Many of the inhabitants of the Community were receptive of our message, some were inquisitive and engaged us in further discussions about these rights and how they can actually be enforced, others encouraged us to keep up the good work, while a handful were outright averse to the message we were propagating. This depicted that we must not rest on our oars, until we have a country where everyone is properly sensitized and supportive in the promotion of human rights.
We provided the Community residents with flyers containing helplines for correspondence with NGOs we had partnered with. This was to ensure that if any of these rights are infringed upon, such person can seek recourse through the varying channels or report an ongoing situation.
